Headed to Florida – Superhero Style

Posted on July 23, 2012 by Margaret Schlachter

Just when you think you have a bit of a break another opportunity springs up. So this Friday I will be boarding a plane and heading to Northern Florida for none other than a race. A new race for me at that, this one called the Superhero Scramble.

The scramble is for the first time putting on a team event with cash on the line. Several of the top ladies in the Spartan Race world have teamed together to form a Women’s Spartan Team. I am honored just to be invited along. Team consists of:

Andi Hardy

Andi has been lighting up the Spartan Race scene this year since she started in Georgia. She currently has sat on the podium six out of seven races this year and her only race not on the podium was at the Utah Beast where she finished a respectable 6th. She is looking forward to tackling the shorter distance of the Superhero Scramble. She is the woman in lime green so the green slime at the end I am predicting will be in her favor.

Ang Reynolds

Ang is currently leading the Spartan Race points for women at this point in the season. She has podiumed three out of five races so far this year and finished top ten in her two other starts. She recently has been training for speed and will be bringing her California flair with her to Florida. I heard she has been consistently clocking six minute miles. Definitely one to watch out for or she might just pass you before you know it.

Corinne Kohlen

With seven Spartan Races under her belt this year and a couple podiums Corinne is one to watch out for. She currently sits behind Ang in the points for women and is poised to do well this weekend. She is a master at the obstacles and pushes it everyday in training. Corinne has set up obstacles in her backyard she can train when not racing around the country. Don’t let her smile and calm attitude deter you, she is one of the toughest competitors I know!

How is an obstacle race a team event? This really is the brain child of Hobie Call. He envisions obstacle racing to become a league and is hoping this will be the first of races to come. The way this works is each team consists of three or four members of a single sex. Everyone runs the race as individuals and the top three times added together are the teams results. The fastest men’s and women’s teams win. What’s at stake? Cash, cold hard cash. Those racing in the 8:20am Scramble Gamble will have the opportunity to win part of the $3,000 individual cash prizes but also as a team win out of an additional $2,000 pot. The details of the breakdown of prizes are a little murky on the website, but it should prove for an interesting race! So it’s onward to Florida I head on Friday, because who doesn’t want to visit Northern Florida in July :).

The only question is what Superhero would you be?
