Day 3…Wax On Wax Off
My Gear This Morning. |
Another evening post, sorry friends came first. This morning started with a trail run on the Long Trail near Killington. Short 2 mile run. Conditions were dry and the weather was starting to get warm early this morning. It seems summer is here. The trail was very rocky and stumpy this morning which turned the run as much into an agility workout as a cardio workout.
Distance: 2.2 Miles
Time: 34:39
Vertical: About 400ft
A little more about my running program for the World’s Toughest Mudder and Spartan Beast… I am following a trail running ultramarathon program, Ultraladies. I choose the 50 Mile Race training program. Nancy Shura-Dervin, is behind this running program and she was nice enough to email me back with a few training questions I had. She is an extremely experienced runner with 100+ races under her belt from marathons up to 100 Milers. She suggested on the long days, (coming up later in the summer) take a 26 mile Saturday and break it into 16 in the morning and 10 in the evening, then the Sunday 10 miles in the morning. This will help simulate race conditions, she also stressed this in all the running training. More of her tips to come.
My Shoes looked this clean once! |
Lastly, I had a follower ask me about my choice of running shoes. I have become a “barefoot runner”, well sort of. I do all my training and running in Vibram Five Fingers. Yes, the funny looking shoes my personal favorites right now are the Bikila LS’s. A shop down by Stratton, VT is a licensed dealer, Norse House and they hook me up. I love these Vibram Five Fingers as you can see from the picture! For me they have changed running and turned it from a tedious task into something I yearn to do while stuck at work. I also just started using a hydration belt or energy belt for shorter runs. On longer runs I carry a backpack. I use the Nathan Trail Mix Energy Pack, I have found it to be a great belt that doesn’t move around a ton while running and fits my iphone, keys, and two 10oz containers for water or sports drink. In addition it had these bungie holders for a shirt or jacket, although I have never used them so can’t comment on how well it works. More to come about my training tools.
One addition to last nights post. The title! Yesterday was our green up clean up day at work. About 8 – 10 of us took upon the task of staining the building. After 9 hours of staining trim, and working up on ladders and in eves my mind started to go. At the end of the day all I could think of was the Karate Kid and Mr. Miyagi, “wax on, wax off.” Pandora‘s classic rock station was the only way I got through the day that and knowing I had a BBQ Pool Party to go to after work.
