Carrying strange objects is par for the course when it comes to training for an obstacle race or really any functional fitness training. Recently Brute Force Sandbags offered to send me a few of their sandballs to try out and give a review on. As it is summer and my group of friends meet weekly on Friday’s for our Park WOD this served as the perfect opportunity to give the bags a test in the “wild” of Salt Lake City.

About the Sandbags & KettleBell

The Brute Force Sandbags from BruteForceTraining.com are shipped without the sand so a quick trip to the local hardware store of sandpit it needed to fill the bags once they come in. The best part about this is the low cost of shipping and the ability to customize your bags to the exact weights you want depending on your fitness level.

I picked up two bags of play sand to fill the sand kettlebell and the sandbag inserts and within minutes had them full and ready for action.

In The Wild

IMG_9786During our workout in the park we decided to put the sandbag and kettlebell through it’s paces. Out group consists of women of varying ages and some have over close to a decade of experience with CrossFit. We threw, swang, ran, jumped, and stepped with the bags and they took the beating in the wet summer grass.

The kettlebell is what most grabbed my interest. The swing does feel a little different than a traditional kettlebell but something which you get use to in about a swing or two. It also served as a great weighted addition for goblet squats and farmer carries.

Overall, we enjoyed using the products and personally I enjoyed the ability to customize the weights to my personal needs and if I am traveling I can dump out the sand and fill it up on a trip and have a portable kettlebell. The exercise variations were endless and we tried to give it a beating and the strong stitching hasn’t budged. The price may seem high for many but knowing it is an American made product makes me personally feel good about it.
