Gear Review: OOFOS Sandals – Walking on Air

Posted on April 7, 2015 by Margaret Schlachter

IMG_0665This winter I first learned about OOFOS sandals. They sell themselves as a recovery sandal. From the website, “Designed to jumpstart the recovery process, our incredible footwear offers unparalleled impact absorption and arch support. Whether you’ve just finished running, playing, lifting, or just a long day, keep in mind that the last step is the most important.” From the description alone I figures they would be worth a try. So when the company offered to send me a pair of their OOFOS OOriginal sandals I was up to test them out.

Immediately, after taking them out of the box I felt the soft proprietary OOfoam technology. It was like walking on air. Even though it was January when the shoes first came in I found myself wearing them everywhere around the house after workouts. The company may have sent them to me as a post race shoe to flip on after taking off muddy shoes, but quickly I found myself wearing them everywhere.

Luckily we had such a mild winter in Utah that snow never really came and the temperatures quickly were in the 50 then seemed to climb right up into the 70’s. In the process I found myself naturally going for my OOFOS as appose to my normal rubber gardening clogs for trips out to the chicken coop and gardens. I found that they were perfect for backyard farming chores as they were completely cleaned off with just the rinse of a hose. Something that carries over well on race day for an obstacle race or mud run.

Also over time I have found the sandals are great and don’t hold smell. So no matter how my feet smell after a WOD, Race or day in the garden the shoes don’t hold that smell. I relayed my initial feelings to OOFOS and they let me test out the new OOlala collection, a more feminine cut of their sandal. From OOFOS…

Screen Shot 2015-04-07 at 5.09.46 PMThe OOlala brings a new level of elegance and versatility to your favorite recovery footwear brand! The OOlala features a women’s only silhouette that is sleeker and more feminine than our unisex OOriginal thong, while still offering our unique and patented foot-bed design with OOfoam technology. Feel the OO in stylish colors such as Cosmic Pink, Cosmic Blue, and Black.

Meaning now I can get away with wearing these sandals even for a casual dinner out with friends. As summer rapidly approaches my OOFOS are holding up well to all I put them through as well as are light and packable for race trips. They retail starting at $39.95 and go up from there depending on the model.

The only place I found OOFOS not the best shoe was climbing up slick rock in Moab to catch a sunset. For that I will stick to my Inov-8’s and leave OOFOS for lounging around the camp fire.
