Gear Review: P-Mate USA
I stepped outside the door on a rainy evening, pulled out the P-Mate from P-Mate USA and gave it a go. Instantly, joy and excited was heard in my voice after my fiance asked me how it felt to pee standing up. I instantly squealed with excitement almost yelling “This is awesome!” in the cool damp night. This was my introduction to the P-Mate.
Okay, so what is this thing that got me so excited on a rainy evening? The P-Mate is a disposable, recyclable, cardboard device that allows us, ladies, to neatly and discreetly pee standing up, just like a guy.
Sounds good, right ladies?
So to back up a couple weeks, I was offered a chance to try out this product through a review program I work with. They send me products from time to time, I pick the ones that sound interesting to both me and you all. Then a few weeks later a product arrives for me to test out and write about. While P-Mate is not the first urination device it is the first that I have seen that is disposable. When the P-Mate came onto my radar my first reaction was thinking about the championship season for the OCR Community. With Spartan Race World Championships, OCR World Championships, and World’s Toughest Mudder all on the horizon, I saw value in the P-Mate while covering all these events for Mud Run Guide.
Often I am stuck for hours on the sides of mountains, at race venues, or in the middle of the desert for over 24-hours. Often the only option for a bathroom is the side of the trail or a port-o-potty and as many in the OCR world know those port-o-johns can be pretty nasty at the end of the day.
This is where the P-Mate comes into play. It is easy to pack into my day bag for covering these events, the samples they sent me also came with a small bit of travel toilet paper, and the P-Mates themselves came in resealable bags that I can put the used P-Mate into if I need to use it while out somewhere random on course and away from a wastebasket.
Using the P-Mate
The P-Mate is pretty simple to use and even comes with visual instructions if you can’t figure out how it works. It is a no mess way to use the bathroom without having to do that weird squat thing and hope you don’t splash on your shoes or worse. After using it once I can see how it would be useful on race day as an option to pee without having to fully pull down all the compression layers, as well in airports or nasty gas station bathrooms, finally, it could be used on the trail when hiking, camping, or any outdoor sport.
Overall
After one use the P-Mate is already packed in my work bag for the upcoming travel and races I will be attending for both work and play. It is the perfect addition to your race kit for that in case of an emergency situation. The P-Mate is very reasonably priced at $5.95 for a pack of 5 on the P-Mate USA website additionally if you buy two packs they send you a third for free.
For me, I will keep a couple packed away for when I need them and definitely would recommend them to women looking for an alternative to the traditional squat and pee or hover over a port-o-john.

Disclosure of Material Connection: I received P-Mate for free from P-Mate USA in consideration for a gear review. This product was sent to me in exchange for an honest and open review of the product.
