Friends I Do Know

Posted on April 18, 2012 by Margaret Schlachter

A while back I wrote a post about all the incredible people I have met through almost the last year. The post, People I Don’t Know prompted me to think about all the people I interact with that I actually have never met. Well that number yesterday shrunk one more.

Dane Rauschenberg and I have been “friends” since last August when we both competed in the Spartan Beast in Killington, Vermont. When I accepted his friend request I had no idea who he was. Well some google searching later and reading up I found out a little more about him. Dane is an endurance athlete, author, and motivational speaker. He wrote his first book See Dane Run about him running 52 marathons in 52 weekends while still holding down a full-time job and living a “regular life.” Since then he has run numerous races (over 100 marathons), spoken to groups all over the country, and has a million great stories. He just completed the 350 mile race along the Pacific Coast last week.

When I knew I was going to be in Salt Lake City and knew Dane lived here. I figured it would be a great chance to sit down, actually meet (we had spoken much via Facebook) and have a meal. Yesterday, we met at Noodles and Company here in Salt Lake City and proceeded to have a three-hour lunch in which time we spoke about running, racing, life, and everything in between. He is a wealth of knowledge and has some great stories! I thoroughly enjoyed the time and was given a sneak peak of Dane’s upcoming book cover.

Thanks Dane, for taking the time. Loved sharing the stories!
