Sarah Burke

Posted on January 20, 2012 by Margaret Schlachter

We in the ski industry lost a great woman yesterday. Sarah Burke passed yesterday after a skiing accident a few days ago. If you don’t know who she is basically every female freeskier competing today owes a thanks to her.

It seems strange we are in the 21st century and still females are competing to hold their own against the men. Sarah is a competitor who should have been competing this morning here at the Dew Tour. She is one of the best in the world. Has won an ESPY and not only had a passion for sport but a passion for life.

As a female in an emerging sport I recognize her courage and conviction to stand up next to the dudes and prove she was a strong competitor not just against the handful of women competing but the men as well. She is a role model to women all around and my take away from her is: If you truly want sometime, fight for it and get it!

Remembered as a role model to so many women!
