Tough Mudder Announces No Spartan Flags at WTM
For years there has been a rivalry between Reebok Spartan Race and Tough Mudder. It’s been well documented in outlets like Outside Magazine, 60 Minutes, and in the upcoming book Off Course. On July 9th Tough Mudder put out a blog post about Tips for Preparing Your Pit for World’s Toughest Mudder. In the article it lays out the pit space for the upcoming year. It is a bit of a change from past years and priority is to be given to those who have completed more Tough Mudders or World’s Toughest Mudder Veterans.
In addition each participant will be given more space with a 10×10 foot pit area. Below is a suggested layout from Tough Mudder on the pit space.
The most interesting part of the post is that flags are encouraged but Spartan flags are specifically banned from showing up in the pit area. It seems that even as the sport has continued to progress and move forward some rivalries die hard.
We will be there with our all female team sporting the Dirt in Your Skirt banner in our pit area. We wonder with this new pit arrangement what if any accommodations will be made for teams being able to set up together. Hopefully that is answered in a future blog.
