Day 15… Poolside

Posted on June 20, 2011 by Margaret Schlachter
I think Vermont has hit it’s summer stride, well at least for the next two days. Then the weather will undoubtedly change again. It’s New England, if you don’t like the weather wait a minute. After a productive morning and afternoon in the office I was itching to get outside. Monday’s being are active recovery day I decided the best place to recover from Tough Mudder and Spartan Race training is poolside of course! It’s helpful when a friend has a pool minutes from your house.

Eye on the pool for a post workout dip

Between getting my readings done in preparation for summer grad school next week and relaxing poolside I slipped in this workout. I’ve done the 500 Workout and was actually aiming for a 1000 Workout but my body is (right foot in particular) a little beat up from the weekend so I was forced to scale a few things back today. While doing the Burpees I realized the jump was aggravating my foot and was forced to end at 100. In a way I feel like I failed as I came up short I did 70%. The push-ups killed me at the end. I limped through my last 10 of them but got it done.

Dirt In Your Skirt’s Own
700 Workout
100 Burpees
100 Push-ups
100 Sit-ups
100 Body Weight Squats
100 Pelvic Thrusts or Hip Thrusts
200 Bicycles (100 each side)

For once in my life I am trying to not let my stubbornness let me just muscle through a workout, when in the end I push myself to injury and put myself out of training for an extended period of time.  Over years of training for various sports I have learned it is critical to listen to your body. As I have been icing my right foot on and off today with my eye on getting back on the trail tomorrow, I made sure not to push it too much today as it is a “rest day” and risk injury. Happy to say I have an endless supply of ice around so I can let it and rest do it’s magic! If you don’t know what a is Burpee, welcome to the world of Burpees! Watch this video, you can modify without the push-up and stay in plank position instead.
