Day 59… It’s Getting Closer

Posted on August 4, 2011 by Margaret Schlachter

It is safe to say I think I have officially lost interest in anything but the Spartan Beast, except maybe my niece. If you looked at my inbox it is covered with emails regarding the Spartan Chicked Team, and the ladies staying at my place over the weekend. I am not sure which is more exciting.

I have been pumping through work this past week in order to be able to enjoy my weekend and I think I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. One more paper to write tonight and one more article to read and I will officially be ahead of the game! Today, I even got in a very short run. I needed it to clear my head before jumping back into homework.

Trail Run
Hinesburg, VT
Distance: 2.20 Miles
Time: 23:14
Pace: 10’33”

It is funny as many of the people I consider my friends in the obstacle racing world, I have never actually met in person or only met once or twice at a race. Although, the time spent interacting with them on Facebook, Email, Skype, and phone makes me feel like I am reuniting with old college friends. It is funny how this one sport has brought so many together. It is through the shared experiences on these race courses that strong bonds are formed. I am almost giddy with the excitement to see everyone, both working and competing in the race. Many of the friends formed during the Death Race will be in town this weekend which makes it even more exciting as its been a month and a half since we were all together.

The Spartan Beast Race has been turned into more than just a race for many of us, it’s a chance to gather discuss strategies for even larger races on the horizon and of course, roll around in the mud, play with fire, and do other things deemed abnormal in everyday society.

See you all tomorrow night!
