Day 8… Quick and Dirty

Posted on June 13, 2011 by Margaret Schlachter

Week one is over… Just in time for week two to begin. A word about Monday’s they are basically an active rest day after long runs over the weekend. Today I took a workout from the Spartan Race WOD, this workout was tweaked from Saturday’s workout of the day. It was quick and can be as easy or as hard as you want to make it.

Pull ups have been my nemesis since I was 14 years old and had my first morning sport workout at Stratton Mountain School. Seriously, as everyone else was able to do at least 1 – 2 at least by the end of fall dryland training I was still struggling at 0 completed. This stigma about pull ups has followed me through college and into my adult life. I am happy to say I can now to ALMOST 2 Pull ups. So for the warm up below I omitted the pull ups from warm up. I am continuing to work on this part of my body as my back is strong and so are my arms and core its just putting the package together to get my damn chin above the bar! I also changed the push ups from on the ground to pronated reverse push ups, an example is in the video.

“Get it done.” – Jason Jasksetic
warm up:
20 push-ups, 10 pull ups, 20 crunches

Main:
2 minutes of pronated reverse push-ups (keep count) – 31
1 minute rest
2 minutes crunches (keep count) – 116
1 minute rest
max pull ups (keep count) – 1.5
1 minute rest
2 minutes crunches (keep count) – 127
1 minute rest
2 minutes pronated reverse push ups (keep count) – 27 (muscle failure)

I added my counts for the workout. It’s a base and I have a long way to go but it will be interesting to try this workout again in another month or two.  Today’s race video inspiration.

Video from the Spartan Race NY. The Spartan race in NY was only a 5k check out the official race video  —here—. Get a look at some of the people’s faces! The Spartan Beast at Killington is going to be about 4 times as long. Hobie Call is truly an amazing athlete. If you have the time read up on what he is doing. Now off to make some dinner with fresh veggies from my CSA. Love getting fresh food!
