Week 7 Wim Hof Method Check-in

Posted on February 27, 2017 by Margaret Schlachter

Week seven of the Wim Hof online 10-Week course has come to a close and currently onto week 8 of the 10-week program. As the weeks have progressed it’s not always easy to make yourself turn the hot shower to cold or work on the breathing but the times that I do it ends up being worth it 100% of the time.

This past week much of the breathing, push-ups, stretching, and yoga poses have been similar to previous weeks. It seems the foundation has been set so now it’s jumping deeper into the practice and again starting to apply the methods to more real world situations.

The biggest addition this week was finishing out the routine with 10-minutes holding what Wim Hof calls the horse stance. Which is basically a high squat similar what you might see with Tai Chi.

Breakthroughs:

This week had a couple big breakthroughs. The first one worth noting is I broke the three-minute mark on the breathing rounds. For those just catching up that means I “held” my breath (more like went without) for over three minutes! Totally shocking myself in the process that it was possible!

It is something that you truly need to feel it to grasp it possible. But I did it and I never thought it would be possible. How it is possible is from the previous rounds I over oxygenated my body which allowed for me to go without breath for the extended period of time.

The second major breakthrough has been with the shelf exercise in which I finally can hold for almost the full 30-second to a minute in this week’s video. I am still working on making it as flat and pretty as Wim’s are but just a few weeks ago I could not hold the stance at all and now I can for a period of time.

Finally, the last one is in my pushups. When I began I could do about 15 – 20 pushups depending on the day. Now after week 7 I am averaging about 50 per day after a round of breathing. Seriously something I would consider magic if it weren’t for the fact I am doing it!
