Dirt in Your Skirt Gets Its Own Song!

Share

Dirt in Your Skirt has its own anthem!

Dirt in My Skirt by Emily Potter.

Emily Potter is a gift-based economy musician and I had the chance to interview her on the podcast (episode 82). During the interview she talked about a challenge she created for herself in 2018, writing one new original song a month. After the podcast was over I reached out to her to see if she wanted to create a song for Dirt in Your Skirt.

FIND DIRT IN MY SKIRT ON PATREON

That’s right Dirt in Your Skirt would get its own song for use on the podcast. Emily and I chatted over a couple emails and today she came out with the original song and lyrics for Dirt in Your Skirt and the podcast.

Whether you want to call it an anthem, call to arms, empowering moment, or just something you find yourself singing along to, it’s incredibly cool and exciting to have a song to represent Dirt in Your Skirt.

The few friends I have shared it with this morning have all said they feel the brand, myself, and the podcast all in this two minutes of song/storytelling. While I am sure it is not for everyone I am pretty happy with the end product and a huge thank you to Emily Potter for the hard work she put into creating this original piece.

From Emily’s Patreon Page:

It’s a girl power song.

A few months ago I was featured on a podcast called Dirt in Your Skirt.

This podcast audience is listening to stories of outrageous women stepping out of the norm and conquering their most intimate fears. The women featured are not only taking a stand and living authentic lives…

Dirt in Your Skirt women are leading the charge.

The award-winning host, Margaret Schlachter, asked me to write the podcast’s theme song! Such an amazing honor.

From one leader of the world to another.

Emily

Starting tomorrow the song Dirt in My Skirt will be part of the podcast moving forward. It’s incredible to have the podcast completely a unique production including unique music for the show!

DIRT IN MY SKIRT

Lyrics and Music by Emily Potter

VERSE I
She said I had to stop caring
What they think of me
What they want to see
What a girl’s supposed to be
I woke up this morning
In a cold sweat warning
To give another way a whirl
Be the leader of the world

CHORUS
Wanna be brave today
When the crowd is shunning
I’ll be the one running
Getting dirt in my skirt
I stomp my foot down
In my boots and queen’s gown
Yeah I’m that kind of girl
I’m the leader of the world

VERSE II
So meet me in the pines
Why watch from the sidelines
We’re the diamonds, we’re the pearls
We’re the leaders of the world
While they call us crazy
We’ll make crowns of daisies
Coronate our braids and curls
As leaders of the world

    • Apple blossoms are out of this world at the moment.
::
Spring is the best as everything comes alive again and you can feel and see the new beginnings all around.
::
Growing up in the northeastern US apples are a huge thing. Not so much in Utah. So happy we were apple to plant this McIntosh tree in our yard. Although, I still dream of Cortlands but they don’t grow around here so happy to have what I have and our McIntosh tree is in full bloom!

    • What better way to spend #earthday2018 than working with “weeds” in our backyard?
::
Creating tinctures, infusions, chips, and more.
::
Weed is an interesting word. In reality a plant is just a plant. However, we add labels to plants. Yet, I am finding many of the “weeds” in the backyard are the most potent healing plants and packed with vitamins and minerals.
::
Working with nettle and purple deadnettle today.

    • Perspective is key. Have you ever thought about how you would experience the world from another’s point of view?
::
I watched the most massive worm make it’s way across the garden the other day and wondered...
:
What is the world like from the worm’s point of view?
:
I have spent a bunch of time in conversations lately being asked about my stances on several issues.
::
I find myself telling people - the answer is nuanced. As there often isn’t a black or white answer. As our culture continues to change, so do many beliefs. But that’s a humanist view.
::
What if we started to try to look at the world from another species point of view? How would our opinions change?

The industry seems to be evolving daily and we talk about the end of prohibition in the US and what it means for adults and patients.

    • Sights around the yard as spring is starting to pop. My mom once told me late season snow actually helps add nitrogen to the plants. Not sure if it’s true but I can say after the on and off snow the last two weeks everything looks great and super green around the yard.
::
Just call it springtime magic or magick 😌
