Today on social media Reebok Spartan Race made a splash again and one which might end up reaching further than the obstacle racing and mud run world. Today on their Facebook they reveled their new design for the 2014 Spartan Race Ultra Beast touted as a 26.2 mile obstacle race (however in past years it has tipped the mileage over 30 miles). The new design is a medal/buckle combo as we loving refer to as a muckle.
However, as seen in past years and past experience giving out a buckle for anything other than a 100-mile endurance race causes a stir in the endurance community. It has already caused waves on Spartan Race’s own page with either love or hate. It seems those looking for the glow in the dark oversized medal will be out of luck this year and instead be aiming for a new belt buckle. There has not been much reaction from the ultra community as of yet, but surely there will be some if they grab ahold of this one.
What are your thoughts?
Do you care about a medal vs. a buckle?
Should the buckle be only for 100-mile endurance races?
