Ep. 113 – Kara Lubin Founder of The 100 Mile Club

Posted on July 6, 2018 by Margaret Schlachter

Kara Lubin, a 4th generation public school teacher and special education specialist. started the 100 Mile Club® in 1992 with 15 kids and one idea: run 100 miles and earn a gold medal. What Kara didn’t realize, however, was that she was starting a national movement…literally! This year alone, her national nonprofit organization, the 100 Mile Club, will reach 1.2 million students in over 4,700 schools spanning all 50 states and internationally.

With “slow and steady” as her mantra, Kara has since become an ultrarunner and recently completed her first 4-day event running her first 100 miles, and has run several 50Ks but still has yet to complete a marathon or 10K.

Special for Dirt in Your Skirt Listeners

If you were inspired to start a 100 Mile Club® at your local school or group Kara has offered a special just for the podcast. If a new school or group registers for 100 Mile Club® and mentions Dirt in Your Skirt under “How did you hear about us?”, the organization will sponsor 5 Youth 100 Mile Club Signature Incentive Packages with their purchase of 20 or more Incentive Packages.

Thanks to Kara for continuing to help others and help the youth of today get active and healthy and chase their own goals.
