DIRT IN YOUR SKIRT ANNOUNCES

EXTREME NATION TEAM

35468_511529515556773_773431743_nExtreme Nation is quickly taking the obstacle racing world by storm, with the combination of Hobie Call designing the course and $150,000 dollars in prize money at stake, everyone has taken notice. Extreme Nation is changing the way we all think about obstacle course racing, with a team format and just over two-miles long, it is looking to change how people think about obstacle course racing.

Registration opened today and quickly teams are beginning to form all over the country and no doubt the world soon. Dirt in Your Skirt has followed suit. We have rounded up some of our friends and fantastic obstacle course racers to represent our team for the first Extreme Nation event.

858399_10151229848236861_1173815140_oElla Kociuba

Ella, has been blazing through the Spartan world since late 2011 in Texas. This Flag Nor Fail athlete is one of the top ladies to watch in the sport these days. Her recent win at the Spartan Sprint in Arizona over top ranked athletes April Luu and Tyann Clark showed the world she has the speed and strength for the short courses. We are excited to have her on our team as she brings her youthful spark, endless energy, and is an all around badass on the course.

VolkslaufJanice Ferguson

Janice is not only a Dirt in Your Skirt Ambassador and competitive CrossFit athlete she has a true passion for obstacle course racing. This past year she took second place in the gulf coast Spartan Race in her home state of Mississippi as well as won a handful of other local races. She is also the owner of Bandit CrossFit and re hear she has added obstacles to practice on in her gym. One thing is for sure Janice loves to run short distances and can tackle any obstacle. She isn’t letting a recent hand injury slow her down, and is using this time to build even more speed going into Extreme Nation.

340373_569690136381464_1941446152_oIrene Call

Most people know Irene as Hobie Call’s wife, however she is a force to be reckoned with. Although she may not race as much as other races, when she does she makes her presence known. She finished only once out of the top 10 in the seven races she competed in last year. In the 2013 season she has finished outside of the podium only once, taking a close forth place. She is definitely one to watch as she trains with the best and closely follows most of Hobie’s workout routines. Don’t let her smile foul you she is a fierce competitor.

nuvision_action_image_storefront_1410857Margaret Schlachter

Captaining the team is Margaret Schlachter, Dirt in Your Skirt Founder. Although she might not have any wins to her name she made her way onto the podium seven times last year and is known as a racer who is “always there” when it comes to the top ten finishers. She has in the last couple of months added CrossFit into her training routine along with her signature trail runs. Never one to backdown from a challenge she is excited to round out the team and tackle this short intense course this June in Michigan.

The Dirt in Your Skirt team is formed and ready to take on all that Extreme Nation has to throw at them. For now it’s back to training and prep for the rest of the season.

    • Two pups loving life today on the trails. It might not look like much but the way these two played on the trail together was huge.
.
When we adopted Fancy (she came with the name) Bliss wasn’t interested in playing. He definitely was use to being the boss around the house. Only dog syndrome.
.
After 10 months together they are starting to really love each other and today playing on the trail was amazing to watch.
.
I always find I can learn something from watching the dogs. Mostly it’s learning how to not take everything seriously and play more. But today reminded me that while I normally meet a new person and totally “click” with them sometimes you need to take the time and let things marinade before a true lifelong friendship bond can be formed.

    • Family time, cleaning, hiking, exercising the dogs, collecting acorns off the trail, getting out and above the city.
.
Stacking is something I learned a while ago from @nutritiousmovement in Movement Matters. Since that time I have loved embracing stacking in my life.
.
Over the summer, my husband, the ultimate stacker adding trash pickup into our mountain adventures and even created an insta account to showcase it and showcase the efforts of others online called @naturescleaningclub
.
Throughout the summer our family hiking/fishing/swimming/adventure days have included trash pickup of our favorite spots.
.
Above being amazed how much trash is out on the trails and often just off the trail it’s the reactions we get. I am amazed at how many people give us the “good for you...” as they see us. While everyone loves to be applauded for their actions I am waiting for the day when someone says “I’m going to start doing that too!”
.
Maybe our action on the trails is quietly planting the seed for others but I still wait for the day that instead of “good for you” I hear “I want to do this too” or even better they join us and help pick up trash too on the hike.
.
But seeing all the people online doing the same thing as we are is encouraging and hope to meet another #naturescleaningclub person on the trail one day!
.
Until then I’ll keep helping do my part and encourage you to do the same. Be the disruptor on the trail, pick it up even if you didn’t drop it. Every piece matters.

    • Sometimes it’s just fun to pull out a map and look at all the possible adventures on a rainy morning.
.
With fall here and the Uintas already getting snow it’s time to plan some trips to Southern Utah and beyond.
.
Travel and adventure keep that spark alive within you. My recent road trip ignited something that had been dormant for a while. It’s so easy to get wrapped up in the day to day routine. Sometimes so much so you feel stuck. Often a simple tweak to your day can get you out of that rut or if you are like me you always want to go big.
.
I loved my recent road trip but along the way was reminded sometimes the little day to day changes are really the most important to creating the live you love to live.
.
Big adventures end - they turn to memories. But the habits you change in your daily life are the foundational ones that can revamp your entire world.
.
Yes, all that came while pulling out a map and looking at the next camping trip options. Stoked to head out and venture south soon fueling my adventure with @clifbar new Sweet & Salty Bars. A perfect combination of two worlds of flavor aligned together to fuel any adventure, big (a trip) or small (your daily on the go life).

    • Beautiful things don’t always come in big packages. I had a great trip on the road recently. I love staying in new places... like this tiny home in Portland, meeting people, learning about people, seeing new places, and sharing my work and passions.
.
Overall, it’s about embracing adventure, loving the unknown, reconnecting with my core, and having some fun.
.
One of the outcomes that came from my trip were the conversations with people along the way. Every place I stayed and people I saw brought up unique and thought provoking conversation.
.
I got this incredible note from the owner of this Airbnb.
.
“Thank you so much for your thoughtful gift and note. I was so touched and inspired that I'm going to be signing up for my first obstacle race. After the birth of my kids, I've been really wanting to commit to my own health and well-being in new ways. Your visit (and introduction to your work) feels so serendipitous! I hope you had a blast! Whenever you're in town again, please give me a shout.”
.
I don’t shout about my work like I use to. I try to let it speak for itself. Yet, if you ask I am happy to share. It’s amazing what a simple thank you note and buff led to.
.
Basically - be open, be kind, say thank you (leave a note), and try to view the world with curiosity.

    • How much do you know about the endocannabinoid system? Neuroscientist @drmicheleross joined the podcast recently to chat about it and how cannabinoids affect us and how they could be called a vitamin. Dr. Ross is the author of Vitamin Weed.

    • Sometimes you have to remember to stop, look up, and see all the beauty around you. Nature unfiltered. Something about this photo just brings me joy. Simple beauty.

    • Me raw and unfiltered. I took this in that rare quiet moment over the weekend at the @spartan world championships.
.
The world championships were the end of my first solo road trip in about 7 years. The trip was nourishing and invigorating.
.
However, the last few days covering a world championship wrecked my immune system. Long hours, lack of sleep, a lot of running around. Now I’m in bed warding off an impending cold.
.
A gentle reminder to be kind to yourself, your body, and take the rest needed.
.
Sometimes the best thing you can do is drink some tea, make some soup 🥣 cuddle up with the dogs and watch some Netflix and Hulu.
.
Self care time.
